MEET
HOLLYWOOD COLE
This week’s Producer Spotlight is on Grammy-nominated heavyweight Hollywood Cole—the man behind the tag “Cole, you stupid.” He’s the ear behind Drake & Lil Wayne’s “B.B. King Freestyle”, Latto & 21 Savage’s “Wheelie”, JID’s “Sistanem”, and plenty more heat. Cole’s sound blends soulful sample textures with modern bounce, giving his beats that rare mix of grit and polish every producer can learn from. Check out his exclusive Samplette interview below!

Producer Name: Hollywood Cole
Hometown: Virginia
Currently Resides In: ATL
Describe the moment that inspired you to get into music production:
One of my homies from college introduced me to FL Studio at the time and I thought it was dope. Once I saw that I was all in, I began to figure it out until I found Logic Pro and thats what I used majority of the years when I was really learning how to make music. Now I only use Ableton.
Who are some of your musical influences?
Kanye West, The Neptunes, Timbaland, J Dilla
What’s your DAW of choice, and why?
Ableton. Best DAW out there! Sampling wise and technicality!
Do you have any routines or rituals before starting a session?
Nothing in particular. Somedays I may just make drum grooves and find samples to chop to those...other days I may start with the music/samples and chop those up and then lay drums after.
How would you describe your signature sound?
I'm pretty versatile man. but I'd say I have an old school sound mixed with new school...you're always going to get dope chops and hard drums from me!
What's on that master bus đź‘€?
If you could only use three plugins for the rest of your career, what would they be?
FabFilter Pro Q3, Serato Sample, Addictive Drums
What is a must-have drum kit every producer should have?
How do you overcome creative block?
Play video games lol. Or I'll just go live life and do things that take me outside of the house or studio.
How do you know when a track is finished?
When I start rapping or singing to the beat lol. Honestly when I feel like I have a hook then thats when I feel it’s done.
What is one of your favorite highlights of your production career?
When I produced "Headshots" for Isaiah Rashad and then he invited me out to the concert when he came to Atlanta. It was a crazy moment cause that’s the first time I saw a crowd of people singing along to a beat that I made in my room when I was living with my mom and aunt. The response was crazy.
What are some of your most recent projects?
Wale - "Where To Start"
Jack Harlow ft. Doja Cat - "Just Us"
Lekan - "Make It Right"
Jay Electronica - "Anybody Else Know How To Work Ruby Slippers?”
Who's an underrated producer more people should know about?
My guy Lyle LeDuff. Bro produced "Brand New Guy" by A$AP Rocky and various Lil Uzi joints!
Which producers would you love to collaborate with?
Dr. Dre and Pharrell
What's a song you wish you had produced?
Bino Rideaux & Blxst - "Savage"
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received about music production?
Stay a student and continue to learn and don't hold beats for anybody! lol
If your sound was a movie, which type of film would it be?
"Drumline"
What is a fun fact about you?
I use to play the trumpet when I was a kid.
The sandlot is one of my favorite movies.
What’s your long-term vision?
At some point way down the line in my career I want to just come in on projects just for my taste and specific ear when it comes to music. Not necessarily making beats but just coming in to curate the music a bit.

Myth: Pet insurance doesn’t cover everything
Many pet owners worry that insurance won’t cover everything, especially routine care or pre-existing conditions. While that’s true in many cases, most insurers now offer wellness add-ons for preventive care like vaccines, dental cleanings, and check-ups, giving you more complete coverage. View Money’s pet insurance list to find plans for as low as $10 a month.
